The 3-rd International Forum "Innovations in Road Construction", organized by the State Company "Russian Highways" ("Avtodor"), was held in Sochi from June 14 through June 16, 2016. The event succeeded with the support and involvement of the following institutions: the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the Federal Road Agency, the State Duma Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection, the Administration of the Krasnodar Region, the RUSNANO Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs, the Agency for Technological Development, and the World Skills Russia movement.
Over 430 specialists from 6 countries of the world gathered at the Forum to discuss the topical issues of innovative development of the road industry.
The Forum was attended by representatives of the Government Executive Bodies of the Russian Federation; by developers of the advanced equipment, materials and technologies along with specialists in the field of transportation infrastructure, road construction and finance; as well as by spokesmen from the education sector, relevant ministries and departments.
More than 18 companies, jointly with the young promising students and post-graduate students, presented their developments within the framework of the exhibition.
Special attention was paid to environmental issues in the road sector, to which a separate roundtable discussion was devoted; and subsequently the participants also studied and approved the Project developed by GOST (State Standard) for construction of wildlife crossings. It will be sent to the Government Executive Bodies for consideration.
In addition, it was organized a roundtable discussion in partnership with the Federal Road Agency whereon the security issues on the roads of the Russian Federation were highlighted at large. Speakers emphasized that the introduction of innovative technologies will significantly reduce the impact of human factors on the roads.
The problem of innovations lead-time was discussed in the course of the discussion platform "Applying of Innovative Materials and Technologies for Creation of Effective Road Infrastructure". The participants considered the perspective lines of development including the following: construction of infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs), use of new technologies for the road surface marking enabling to extend its durability, and the more widespread utilization of composite materials.
The necessity for the use of modern innovative methods of modernization of the roadway platform will inevitably entail the development of the road-building equipment. Otherwise there is no possibility to use the innovative technology for construction and repair of roads. These and many other issues were discussed at the roundtable discussion: "Road-Building Machinery and Equipment: Trends and Prospects of Further Development".
Collaborative engagement with the small and medium-sized entrepreneurship sector is the priority activity of the State Company "Russian Highways" ("Avtodor"). This issue was discussed in the course of a separate roundtable discussion, and also at the workshop devoted to participation of SMEs in the procurement of certain types of legal entities on the example of the State Company "Russian Highways" ("Avtodor").
Road designers identified the problems related to drafting of the regulatory framework, as well as associated with the technical support and experience in application of various innovative technologies. They also proposed a number of measures aimed at elaboration of the legislative initiatives in this area.
The issues of blue-collar occupations’ promotion were discussed within the framework of the separate discussion platform.
The Forum’s overall results were summed up through the open microphone session, after which the Resolution was prepared by the participating moderators.
For the third time running the International Forum "Innovations in Road Construction" has become a sought-after particularized business platform for information exchange, transfer of experience, searching for new tools and mechanisms of introducing innovations and developing the industry.
